Natural IBS Treatments

Here's some more natural IBS treatments that you may want to consider to help with your problem. My primary recommendations for IBS are discussed on the cures for IBS page, so if you haven't looked at that, please do so...

...they are based on Oriental wisdom proven over thousands of years. Having said that, here's some other natural IBS treatments for you to consider...

  • Aloe Vera (it's very healing to your intestines)
  • Peppermint, used in the enteric-coated capsule form (so it can reach your intestines). Peppermint helps digestion, relieves gas and upset stomach, and is also healing to your intestines. This is used in Europe quite a bit.
  • Liquid or Tablet Alfalfa - it helps build the flora in your intestines and cleans your blood, which probably has gathered toxins.
  • Milk Thistle extract (a.k.a. silymarin) - is healing for both your digestive tract and your liver.
  • Put your vegetables and fruits through a blender to make them easier to digest when you are having an IBS episode.
  • Use charcoal tablets when you have gas and bloating. They're available in natural foods stores. Don't use them everyday - they can block absorption of nutrients.
  • Be sure to drink enough water
  • All dairy products can irritate your intestinal wall. Avoid them.
  • Stress management can decrease both frequency and severity of attacks, according to research studies.

The last consideration above, stress management, is an important one. Emotional stress is considered by Oriental medicine to the main cause of IBS, so handling it is a huge step in getting over the problem.

I highly recommend mediation, Tai Chi and other forms of "mental" relaxation to help with IBS.
